Sample This! is a weekly sample of...well...samples. Sampling music became mainstream when hip hop artists started reusing parts of other songs in their own songs. On this show we dive into the history of sampling and even some of the first samplers, on BTPM The Bridge.

  • The Fugees are no stranger to sampling. Their song "Ready or Not" off their second album samples The Delfonics song of the same name, and the Enya song "Boadicea".
  • Marc talks about Labi Siffre and his hit "I Got The..." — and how Eminem was almost denied the ability to sample the song on "My Name Is".
  • In this episode, Marc talks about Clyde Stubblefield's performance on the James Brown song "The Funky Drummer" — and the many songs that sampled it, including an N.W.A song and the Powerpuff Girls theme.
  • In this episode, Marc dives in to how M.I.A. sampled The Clash's "Straight to Hell" on her 2007 "Paper Planes", and gives a little bit of history behind the two songs.
