February is very close to becoming the coldest month ever in Western New York.
National Weather Service Meteorologist John Hitchcock notes the forecast calls for subzero conditions again, adding that temperatures have not been above freezing locally all month long.
Hitchcock said the average temperature this month has so far been 11.5 degrees. The record, he said, is 11.6 degrees, set back in February of 1934.
Hitchcock said with the forecast predicting more extreme cold over these last few days of February, the area has a good shot at breaking that record making February, 2015, the all-time coldest month ever in Western New York.
