The Rare Book Room of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library is honored to acquire and exhibit a selection of artist books and prints made by AP (Anthony Peter) Gorny. Printmaker, photographer, sculptor, bookmaker, performer — none of these definitions truly capture AP as an artist. A graduate of SUNY Buffalo State University and Yale University's School of Art, AP's artwork is in over 50 institutional collections, including the Vatican Library, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Library of Congress.
Though many of AP's professional accomplishments extend far beyond Buffalo, he is a product of this city. AP was born into the insular Polish communities of Buffalo in the mid-twentieth century. When he finally ventured beyond his neighborhood, the expansive cultural experiences available to him in Buffalo helped shape the artist he was to become. Using oral histories, digitized materials from Buffalo's cultural institutions, and the artist's own work, the Library's Special Collections Department has woven the disparate pieces of AP's career to show an artist formed in a specific place and moment, working outside established channels to create a world for himself.
The exhibit AP Gorny: Different from the Rest will showcase artist books recently acquired by the Library's Rare Book Department in close cooperation with AP, as well as never-before-seen archival documentation and video footage made available through the digitization efforts of the Grosvenor Room.

The John Troy Group delivers a vibrant bouquet of music that traverses electrically throughout eras and styles — from classic, swingin’ organ-driven grooves and tight modern jazz works to colorful explorations of Neo-soul, Lofi, Indie Rock, hip-hop, all inspirations that are evident in John’s original compositions. The band features a formidable phalanx of musicians hailing from Rochester & Buffalo, NY, and while each performance of the John Troy Group strives to be novel & inventive, their progressive sounds are clearly rooted in soul, bop and beauty.
Please join us for a full-spectrum musical journey, unified by artistry, energy, and the unmistakable spirit of twin city talent.

A new original audiovisual installation experience curated by Buffalo-based artist collective Groupwork and part of the in.sight series, an ongoing investigation into technology-mediated expression and embodied systems of code, light, sound, and space. Aperture / Afterimage continues Groupwork’s ongoing exploration of shared experience, generative systems, and memory as a living process. Less a spectacle to be consumed than a condition to inhabit, Aperture / Afterimage leaves the audience slightly out of sync with ordinary time.
