Charlie the dog euthanized weeks after being found in garbage tote

SPCA of Erie County

The dog who was found in a garbage tote by Buffalo Sanitation workers nearly a month ago is now dead. According to the Erie County SPCA, Charlie the dog was euthanized Friday due to his health and aggressive behavior he displayed earlier in the week.

The SPCA said his behavior posed a threat to himself, other dogs, and caregivers.

SPCA Spokesperson Gina Browning said while this is a brutal situation, there was some good to come out of it.

"This dog received cards and clothing and donations. He received valentines," she said. "We saw the best of people in this community and other parts of the country. That is something that we may not have had the opportunity to see if not for Charlie. So we'll be forever grateful for him."

An award for information regarding who left Charlie in a garbage tote has been increased to $2,475.
