Mayor Byron Brown was not in Buffalo Thursday when the indictment in the Buffalo Billion public corruption case was announced. He was in Washington, but returned last night. WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley caught up with the mayor Friday morning.
"As Governor Cuomo said yesterday, if the allegations prove to be true it would be very disappointed,", stated Mayor Brown.
Back in Buffalo Friday, we caught up with Mayor Brown at the rededication of Hayes Hall on UB’s Main Street campus.
Brown tells us how he reacted when he heard about the charges against developer Louis Ciminelli.
“I was surprised, absolutely. Very concerned about it. Certainly, again, if the allegations are true, it would be a great disappointment, but we’ll see how the legal process unfolds and plays itself out,” the Mayor responded.
The Mayor stressed growth in the Buffalo community will continue and the investigation should not impact current projects.
Ciminelli is also the developer of UB's medical school, but University President Satish Tripathi says it has no impact on construction.
“The medical school is really on track and hopefully we will be moving at the right time,” noted Tripathi.
Former Buffalo Mayor Anthony Masiello also attended the UB event, but he would not comment on the case.
