“Mama Told Me (Not To Come)”, “Joy to the World”, “Black and White”, “Shambala”, “One”...it can be difficult to choose your favorite Three Dog Night hit. Fortunately, you will be able to hear them all as the legendary music icons headline North Tonawanda's "Rockin' On The River" free concerts series beginning June 24.
It will be a bittersweet concert, as the band's power voice was silenced in October. Buffalo native Cory Wells died while fighting cancer at the age of 74.
That voice powered the rockers' popularity through the 1970s until today. In the years 1969 through 1974, no other group achieved more top-10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night, according to their website. Their hits wind through the fabric of pop culture today, whether on the radio, in TV commercials or in major motion pictures.
Also headlining the concert series are Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Rik Emmett.
Shepherd is a multi-platinum-selling guitarist, singer and songwriter best known in Blues circles. Since 2013 he has been part of The Rides, with fellow band members Steve Stills of Crosby, Stills & Nash fame, and Barry Goldberg of Electric Flag.
Emmett is a founding member of rock band Triumph and has also has enjoyed a long and prolific solo career. He is best known for his wide range of guitar styles, incorporating rock, blues, jazz, classical, bluegrass and flamenco techniques.
The concerts are Fridays on June 24, July 1 and July 8 at North Tonawanda's Gratwick Riverside Park. Parking opens at 2 p.m. on the day of each concert.
