As the community continues searching for answers in dealing with the Opioid addiction crisis, Medaille College in Buffalo is set to host a public conversation, “The Opioid Epidemic: What you Need to Know.” It will be held Wednesday, October 26th at 6 p.m.
In announcing the conversation, the college noted the conversation will feature an evening of “informative and frank conversation on about the challenges of opioid addiction.”
A history of the opioid epidemic will be delivered as well as what drugs are classified as opioids and the type of treatments available. The college said the conversation will include the difficulty of seeking the necessary treatment and where people can turn to for assistance.
The event will feature a presentation by John Flickinger, Resident Agent in Charge,
Drug Enforcement Administration Buffalo Resident Office. There will be a panel discussion with a forensics specialist who works in addictions, a Narcan trainer from the Erie County Health Department, and a representative from Horizon Health Services and a counselor from Medaille College.
The panel will include a 22-year-old woman in recovery and her mother who will discuss what it is like to live with someone struggling with addiction and the challenges the family faces. There will be a question and answer session.
