City Honors tops list of middle school rankings

WBFO News File Photo

Business First is out with its list of the best Middle Schools in Western New York and Buffalo's City Honors is at the top.

For the last six years, Transit Middle has held the number one spot on the Business First rankings of 194 middle schools across Western New York. This year, Transit Middle has fallen to number two on the list, with City Honors moving into the top spot.

Business First notes more than a quarter of all sixth, seventh and eighth graders at City Honors earned superior sores on last year's statewide English tests and at least 20-percent of the students scored just as highly on the state math tests. City Honors is the only school in Western New York with that number of students achieving superior scores in both of those areas.

Transit Middle came in number two on the list, marking Transit Middle's ninth appearance in one of the top two spots in the last ten years.

Rounding out the top five are Saint Benedict's in Amherst at number three, Saint Gregory the Great School in Williamsville at number four and Christ the King School in Amherst at number five.

Business First looked at four years of statewide test results, from 2011 to 2014, for grades sixth through eighth to compile the rankings.
