A local organization is working to assist homeless women. As Sunday mark Mother's Day Family Promise of Western New York has launched a Mother's Day Campaign reaching out for donations. WBFO'S Eileen Buckley met with Family Promise Executive Director Charlie LeFevre learning that some women could be spending Mother's Day on the streets.
"We're here to provide support to the families able to help these women finding housing and resources, linking them to other social service organizations," said LeFevre.
In 2014 there were 991 families in Western New York, headed by a single mother, needing homeless shelter assistance.
Family Promise assisted 15 families headed by single moms in 2014. The organization helps the women with employment assistance and linking to housing options. 500 volunteers work with Family Promise.
The organization has also worked to help refugee women settle into life in Buffalo through their services.

"Lack of affordable housing is the number one cause," said LeFevre explaining why women ended up homeless and seek assistance.
