The Ken-Ton school district is working through the details as it plans for next year's major reorganization.
There won't be much construction this building season and the district residents will be asked in December to approve some construction, some related to the plan to close some schools and move attendance districts around.
Outgoing Superintendent Mark Mondanaro says many of the projects to be suggested to voters are more necessary than essential to the reorganization. So, the plans likely include a gym expansion at Kenmore East High School and a bus loop at Ken West.
The immediate items for the reorganization were released yesterday, adjustments to the plan. Mondanaro says it's more for the students so that some Ken West freshman will be allowed to stay and graduate from there rather than shift to Ken East and seven other similar changes.
"There isn't much that takes effect this year," Mondanaro said.
"There's a lot of behind-the-scenes planning that we have started and that we need to do in a chronological way and in a domino effect way, that one thing that has to be done before the next thing that can be done successfully."
Another of the shifts reflecting the way the district is moving around allows some fifth graders from Hamilton Elementary to go to Franklin Middle next year, rather than in 2016. Under the current schedule, they would have attended four schools in four years.
