Howard Cohen named interim president of Buffalo State

The State University of New York Board of Trustees has appointed an interim president at SUNY Buffalo State. Dr. Howard Cohen's appointment will take effect August 1 and will continue while President Aaron Podolefsky is on sick leave.

Cohen, a professor of Philosophy, served as chancellor of Purdue University Calumet from 2001 to 2011.  He will receive an annual salary of $225,000.

“Dr. Cohen comes to SUNY with more than four decades of experience in higher education. He is certain to provide outstanding leadership for the students, faculty and staff at SUNY Buffalo State and will be a great partner in the Western New York community,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher.

“I am privileged and honored to have been selected as Buffalo State’s interim president, and I look forward to building on the success of this exceptional institution of academic excellence," Cohen said.

The SUNY Board also approved the appointment of Dr. Cory Duckworth as president of Jamestown Community College.

Duckworth currently serves as vice president for student affairs at Utah Valley University. His appointment takes effect September 3.
