Police charge teens in video-recorded assault of fellow teen

Charges have been filed against two of the four girls seen on video beating and bullying a fifth girl on a North Tonawanda athletic field, while charges were pending against the other two.

The video, which spread on social media shocked the local community, depicted four girls beating a fifth girl and afflicting additional abuses including the alleged pouring of urine on the victim. Two teen boys, identified as members of the North Tonawanda High School wrestling team, intervened and ended the attack.

North Tonawanda Police say their detectives were able to quickly identify the alleged attackers and began questioning those teens and their parents. Two of them have now been charged with third-degree assault. Police said Tuesday they anticipate charging the other two in the near future.

All four juveniles will be issued appearance tickets and will appear at the probation department. Their parents, meanwhile, have been issued a notice of violation of a municipal bullying and harassment ordinance.

Because they are minors, police are not releasing their names.
