Erie County Sheriff's deputy charged with strangling woman

A Erie County Sheriff's deputy has been indicted for assaulting a woman inside his South Buffalo home.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says Dennis McAndrew, 39, has been arraigned on one count of assault in the second degree and two counts of strangulation in the second degree. The charges could lead to up to seven years in prison.

The charges stem from mid-December 2017, when McAndrew is accused of beating and strangling the woman inside his Olcott Avenue home. When police officers arrived, the DA says she was unresponsive and spent several days at Erie County Medical Center for multiple injuries to her face and body.

McAndrew has been remanded without bail and is scheduled to return to court March 29. An order of protection was also issued, prohibiting him to have contact with the woman.
