From Albany comes word that New York State Senate Republican Leader John Flanagan will not be seeking reelection this year.
In a prepared statement, Flanagan noted his more than three decades of public service, with eight two-year terms in the State Assembly and nine terms in the State Senate, chosen as Senate Majority Leader in 2015 and now serving as Republican Conference leader.
Flanagan said he is announcing his decision now, due to the constraints of the state's political calendar regarding elections.
He noted the current crises facing the state, especially challenging state budget issues, and will continue to serve through the end of the legislative session. Flanagan said he will be part of the process to recruit top-tier Republican candidates across the state.
