A federal lawsuit has been filed by three female former athletes against Canisius College, the head coach of its track and cross-country teams, the athletic director and a former male student-athlete.
The three unnamed plaintiffs allege they were “irreparably harmed through the discriminatory, harassing, negligent and illegal actions of the defendants.”
Two of the plaintiffs said they are in a same-sex relationship and that coach Nate Huckle promoted a hostile environment against lesbians. One plaintiff claimed that a male track team members sexually assaulted her in August 2016.
The lawsuit also alleges that male team members provided marijuana and alcohol to underage female athletes in order to take advantage of them.
In a statement, Canisius said “the concerns were promptly and thoroughly investigated and adjudicated under applicable college policies” in 2018.
