Beyond the Playbook: Bye week reflections

After breaking their record streak of seasons missing the playoffs in 2017, the Buffalo Bills are likely to be sitting out another postseason this year. Analyst Matt Sabuda looks back at what has gone wrong with the Bills, who head into the bye week with a 3-7 record. The offense has been horrid, and the play of injured rookie quarterback Josh Allen hasn't been much better. In searching for positives, Sabuda finds Allen's first-year performance is comparable to that of an NFL star who was equally ineffective while playing in only seven games as a rookie: Jared Goff of the Los Angeles Rams.

A graduate of St. Mary's of the Lake School, St. Francis High School, and Buffalo State College, Jay has worked most of his professional career in Buffalo. Outside of public media, he continues in longstanding roles as the public address announcer for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League and as play-by-play voice of Canisius College basketball.
