Buffalo's Regan brings home rowing gold from Rio

Team USA

Buffalo's Emily Regan and her "unbeatable eight"https://youtu.be/4bGUeQj04YU"> U.S. women's rowing team finished more than two seconds ahead of Great Britain to win gold in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero.

The team now has won every World Championship and Olympic gold medal awarded since 2006. With Saturday's gold medal, the United States now has more gold medals (four) in this event than any other country.

Team USA was rowing in the bronze medal position to the halfway mark of the 2,000-meter course, with Canada in the lead. But the Americans upped the rate and intensity going into the third 500-meters and crossed the 1,500-meter line clearly in the lead.

Great Britain, which had been rowing in sixth, climbed through the pack and moved into second, while Canada dropped into fifth. However, at the finish line, it was the United States claiming its third-consecutive Olympic title.

The U.S. finished in 6:01.49 for gold, Great Britain in 6:03.98 for silver and Romania in 6:04.10 for the bronze medal.
