  • NPR's Robert Siegel talks with Ivo Daalder about the broadcast on Iraqi television of a videotape of Saddam Hussein, apparently indicating that the Iraqi leader survived the early attack from American missiles.   • Julie Phillips' new biography follows the woman behind the famous pen name of James Tiptree, Jr. Alice B. Sheldon (1915 - 1987) used the male pen name to write in a time when male authors could expect more success in the realm of science fiction.
  • On the National Mall in Washington, D.C., thousands attend the groundbreaking for the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial. President Bush, Maya Angelou, and Oprah Winfrey were among those speaking at the ceremony. The memorial is scheduled to open in 2008.
