New polls show Governor Andrew Cuomo with a big edge to keep his job as governor.The Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday found Cuomo would beat one potential Republican challenger, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, by 56 to 25 percent next year. Nearly 60 percent of voters say he should be re-elected.
Appearing on the Capitol Pressroom Tuesday, Cuomo said he's gratified by the numbers.
"As I say when these polls come out, the numbers go up and they go down," Cuomo said. "To the extent that people in the state feel the government is working, that's gratifying. I think it's true"
Polls also show Cuomo decisively beating another potential challenger, Buffalo businessman Carl Paladino.
On another topic, Cuomo says he is expecting a state budget surplus that would enable a tax cut to be enacted next year. 2014 also happens to be an election year for governor in New York.
Cuomo said he will try to cut property tax rates, because that's the costliest tax in the state.
