Though most consider Bernie Tolbert an underdog in the race for Buffalo mayor, Buffalo News Political Reporter Bob McCarthy believes the former FBI agent brings some solid credentials to the campaign.
Speaking on WBFO's Morning Edition Thursday, McCarthy pointed out that Tolbert's law enforcement background will likely be used as his campaign looks to make city crime as a key issue in the race.

Meanwhile, McCarthy expects the well-organized and well-financed campaign team for Mayor Byron Brown to keep the spotlight on the many development projects that are emerging in downtown Buffalo.
The official launch of the Tolbert campaign is expected Saturday, but McCarthy says the Democratic challenger has been raising campaign funds. Many observers think it will take $350,000 to run a credible campaign.
Mayor Brown has over a million dollars in his campaign treasury.
