A routine inspection of the Michigan Avenue lift bridge over the Buffalo River has found some structural issues in the bridge's cable lift system.
That is forcing the immediate closing of the bridge to automobile and pedestrian traffic for several months, until the cables can be replaced.
The City of Buffalo's Department of Public Works, Parks and Streets Division of Engineering said Michigan Avenue is now closed between Ohio Street and Ganson Street until further notice. A detour has been posted, along South Park Avenue to Louisiana Street to Ohio Street to Ganson Street.
Commercial drivers should note that Ohio Street between Michigan Avenue and Louisiana Street is not a truck route, and they should use Louisiana Street from South Park Avenue.
