Anniversary celebration includes awards for change makers

Chris Caya WBFO News

A local organization is looking to recognize people living in Western New York who are making difference in their community. The selected change makers will be recognized with a sizable award.

This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. Its Board Chair Francisco Vasquez says, to help celebrate, the organization will be granting $1 million to honor local change makers.

"Dedicated people who ignite hope and the possibility for the future," Vasquez said.

The money will be granted through a community nomination process. He encourages all Western New Yorkers to nominate a living person who's made an impact in their community.

"Please start thinking about a change maker you know who is making an impact in Western New York that you want to nominate when the process opens in two weeks," Vasquez said.

In all twelve people will be recognized by the Community Foundation in four separate award categories.

"It is our hope that the Centennial Awards and the entire year of celebrations will demonstrate the possibilities of having an impact today, tomorrow and forever," Vasquez said.

Nominations will be accepted February 11th through March 22. More information is available at CentennialAwards.org. or at local libraries across the region.
