Basement explosion injures West Side man

One person was taken to an area hospital for treatment of burns from a fire on Buffalo's West Side early Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to 102 15th St. at about 12:25 p.m. for the report of a possible explosion in the basement. Crews reported seeing smoke from a block away, according to department radio transmissions.

The fire spread from the basement to the first floor and the person inside suffered burns to his face, chest and hands. He was the only person inside the home at the time of the fire, according to radio transmissions.

The blaze caused an estimated $120,000 in damage. The cause is under investigation.
