A Lake Effect snow band shifted north during the height of the Friday morning commute in the city of Buffalo and nearby suburbs. In some spots, it caused gridlock and snarled traffic at times.
Motorists in north Buffalo were at a standstill along major streets like Parkside Avenue, Amherst Street, Delaware Avenue and along Hertel Avenue. Traffic was backed up well beyond its normal spots during the drive-time commute. There were numerous accidents.
The north Buffalo streets were snow covered and very slick at intersections.
At times, there were whiteout conditions along Delaware Avenue as snow was blowing and drifting off of nearby buildings.
Normally it is a 20-minute commute from north Buffalo into downtown Buffalo, but it took well over one hour Friday morning?
