The City of Buffalo is preparing to continue with the build out of Canalside. The process is expected to start moving forward in May.
The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation may be the lead agency on the Canalside project - but Mayor Byron Brown says the land is all city owned.
"And we are working with Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation to follow the master plan for Canalside," Brown said.
The city will be issuing a request for proposals for several parcels in the next few weeks. He says the priority is mixed-use development.

"We want to make sure that in the Canalside footprint we're looking at opportunities for housing, for office, for recreation and green space, entertainment, restaurant, commercial space, so that we continue to attract people. We continue to create jobs. But we also continue to build on the growing residential neighborhood in downtown Buffalo," Brown said.
Congressman Brian Higgins and Assemblyman Sean Ryan have been critical recently of the slow pace of progress on the state funded project.
