Winter is coming. Erie County's Department of Public Works and more than 30 municipalities believe they will be ready, having reached a tentative agreement on a new snow plowing contract.
The contract includes annual three-percent increases of county support for each municipality and runs through mid-2019.
"With the massive infrastructure that Erie County highways has, with over 1,200 center-line miles to maintain and plow, we partner up with our towns and villages to maintain all that in the winter months with plowing and salting, just keeping the roads safe for the public," said Deputy Public Works Commissioner Bill Geary. "They do about 600 miles and we do about 600 miles of center-line road."
The contract must still be approved by the county legislature, as well as the town and village boards of every municipality covered.
