Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation that is intended to make reporting child abuse easier. All public and charter schools will be required to post the state's child abuse hotline phone number in a prominent location. Regulations for this action will be issued by the state education commissioner. Statistics show that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys nationwide are molested, primarily in their own homes.

Sponsors of the legislation state that posting the hotline number will provide an easy and effective means for victims to report the abuse.

The number is 1-800-342-3720.
