A tiny vacant lot at Linwood and Delavan remains the subject of a fight, as the owner pushes to build on the site. The matter was reviewed at Monday's meeting of the city Planning Board.
Timothy Sick's attempt to build a one-story home for himself on the corner lot was killed in the city process, a lot left behind when a fire-destroyed home on the site was removed years ago. Now, he had architect Lee Waterman present the board with a new plan for a two-apartment structure 16-feet wide on the vacant lot, a lot city lawyers have ruled is buildable.
"What the owner wanted was a single-story house, handicapped accessible so he could age in place in the property," Waterman said.
"Because the preservation district was extended to include this end of Linwood, it took quite some years to actually build the house into what it is today."
While Waterman says the building meets all of the rules, neighbor Sandra Hodala argues the building would be built too close to her property. She says there would be only three feet between her front door and the mandated fence of Sick's property.
Planning Board members voted to allow the project, citing that designation that it's a buildable lot and is expected to be built upon at that corner this year.
