While hearing testimony from numerous speakers, including relatives of victims of local gun violence, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand renewed her call to pass a bill that would make illegal gun trafficking a federal offense.
Gillibrand is promoting a bill, which has bi-partisan sponsorship, that she says would give federal authorities the power to crack down on those who acquire guns, move them across state lines and sell them illegally.
During a roundtable discussion in Buffalo, Gillibrand said no such laws currently exist at the federal level.
The roundtable was hosted inside True Bethel Baptist Church on East Ferry Street. You can click below to hear a large portion of that roundtable discussion, which was attended by Gillibrand, Buffalo Common Councilmember and True Bethel pastor Darius Pridgen, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and representatives of numerous community organizations.
Speakers also included relatives of local gun violence victims.
