Optimism rises over new Green Code

The Common Council is expected to begin a lengthy review of  Buffalo's new Green Code today.

It's the first major update to the city's zoning code in more than 60 years. The process condensed 1300 pages into just over 300 pages.

Seneca-Babcock Block Club President Arthur Robinson says it will be simple now for people to purchase thousands of vacant lots across the city.

"Once it's in their possession, it goes back on the tax roll. So these empty lots are now viable to the city to gain taxes off of, so everybody wins," Robinson said.

Nearly five years of work went into revamping the zoning code. Mayor Byron Brown said he's confident that once the Green Code is adopted it will revolutionize the development process in the city of Buffalo.
