The funeral for Carey Gabay was held yesterday in Brooklyn. Gabay served a four-year term as a lawyer in the administration of Governor Andrew Cuomo. He was killed earlier this month when gunfire rang out between rival gangs during festivities surrounding the West Indian Day parade in New York City. In his eulogy, Cuomo used this incident to emphasize the argument for further gun control measures.

"For Carey Gabay to be a victim of gun violence, how absurd. The most innocent of innocent victims, and that's the message the people have understood. It has gotten that bad. The violence has become so brutal, so aimless, that the most innocent can be struck down any time, anywhere."

Gabay recently left Cuomo's administration and had taken a job with the Empire State Development Corporation.

His wife, Trenelle, was joined by extended family and many state officials at the service.
