Schumer holding free lottery for tickets to Papal visit

Senator Charles Schumer will be in the audience when Pope Francis addresses a joint session of Congress in Washington next month. He's giving New Yorkers a chance to win his guest ticket, or a place on the Mall, when the Holy See comes to the U.S. next month.

Schumer, during a visit to Buffalo earlier this week, detailed his free lottery for that guest ticket and other tickets for the Papal address.

"Instead of having it be who you know, that someone with connections gets the tickets that I get, I am doing a lottery," Schumer said.

Interested candidates can enter the free drawing by going to Schumer's website. The drawing will be held Thursday, August 27. Winners will be responsible for covering their own travel and hotel arrangements.

"There are so many New Yorkers, many are devout Catholics, and many others are just admirers of the Holy Father that would like to participate," said Schumer.
