Lake Ontario swimmer rescued by U.S Coast Guard

A search for a 51-year-old man lost at Lake Ontario ended Saturday evening.

Officials say William Cox was swimming near his boat three miles from the Town of Kendall shoreline in Orleans County, when the boat drifted out of site. When Cox's brother James Cox, 62,  couldn't start the boat he called for help. The Sheriff's Marine Unit was dispatched and James was taken aboard the the boat.

After three and a half hours the U.S. Coast Guard, the New York State Police Aviation Unit and the Carlton F.D. Marine Unit located Cox just before 9 p.m.

Cox was able to walk and was transported to Strong West Emergency in Brockport.
