Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown announced the winner of a logo contest for his Buffalo Opportunity Pledge initiative.
Mayor Brown appeared in the lobby of City Hall Tuesday to reveal the winner and new logo. After receiving 20 submissions for the city-sponsored contest, Brown announced Erin Harris as the winner.
"The committee believed that her designed best reflected the city's values and where we're trying to go in terms of building Buffalo as a city of opportunity," said Mayor Brown.
The Buffalo Opportunity Pledge is part of an initiative to ensure that residents and businesses benefit from the city's rising prosperity.
Harris, a freelance designer based in Buffalo, described the makeup of her design.
"I wanted City Hall to be the center of it because I just think this building is the heart of the city. The rising sun represents the new day -- everyday is a new day for growth and opportunity -- and I wanted the pledging hands to represent the diversity of race and culture in the city," said Harris. "It was just really a huge honor and I'm really proud to be part of this initiative."
Harris' winning design will be featured on city-wide billboards, social media sites, community events
