A weekend washout could be on the way for Western New Yorkers. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch from late tonight through Sunday afternoon.
"We're looking at steady rain across Western New York, pretty much for the whole weekend," says National Weather Service Meteorologist Bob Hamilton.
Hamilton notes a low pressure system is bringing heavy rains to the region, which is a bit unusual for this time of year. He says, normally, we see tropical systems moving through the area in June. Regardless, we're looking at two to three inches of rain.
Hamilton adds, "The steadiest and heaviest (rain) would be Saturday afternoon and the first half of Saturday night."
Hamilton says forecasters will be keeping an eye on tributaries, but more likely, any overflow will take place in homes which are prone to basement flooding.
