With more than 200-million dollars spent and a million work-hours put in, Terry and Kim Pegula's HarborCenter project is nearing completion. The final piece, the opening of a new hotel, is expected in the coming months.
The hockey rinks were filled yesterday for NHL teams to study prospects while on the floors above construction workers were building the Buffalo Marriott HARBORCENTER, with its eventual 205 rooms. It's to be finished and turned over to Marriott at the end of July.
"This is definitely different than the regular free-standing Downtown hotel," said the hotel's general manager Huseyin Taran.
"It's the attachment to HarborCenter that makes a huge difference for us, with all of the youth tournaments coming into HarborCenter. It's a very, very unique property. I think it's a huge advantage for us to be attached to the First Niagara Center as well, for all of the NHL games that are going on at the same time in the HarborCenter."
Taran says this hotel will work with the Courtyard by Marriott across the street to house guests. The hotel rooms will have amazing views of the area, Lake Erie and Canada with the higher floors above the visual blockage of the Skyway.
Most rooms will range between $189 to $209 when the first guests start showing up Labor Day.
