A Lockport native working as a police officer in Northern Florida has died in a shooting range accident.

Ocala Police Chief Greg Graham says 33-year-old Jared Forsyth was taking part in firearms training Monday afternoon.  Graham says Forsyth was shot in the chest when another officer's weapon accidentally discharged. He later died at Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Forsyth had been a member of the Ocala Police Department for nearly three years.
