National Fuel: Smell Gas - Act Fast

WBFO News file photo

As the weather warms up in the coming weeks, National Fuel Gas is reminding customers if they smell gas to act fast.  National Fuel Spokesperson Karen Merkel said the thaw that goes along with warmer weather could lead to gas leaks following the frigid winter Western New York has experienced.

"We have unprecedented levels of frost now because of the cold. Whenever the earth is frozen and it thaws and the earth moves, there may be some issues with our infrastructure," said Merkel. "We just want our customers to always be aware, especially when they're outside, usually they know to call us  if they smell gas when they're inside their homes, but we want them to do the same when they're outside their homes."

Merkel said you can report a gas leak to National Fuel by calling 1-800-444-3130.
