Annual family holiday tradition set to continue

Chris Caya WBFO News

Preparations are underway for First Night Buffalo. Now in its 26th year, the event is a drug-free and alcohol-free New Year's celebration sponsored in large part by the Independent Health Foundation. Its Executive Director, Carrie Meyer said, First Night is a safe way for families to ring in the New Year.

“It’s really geared towards...families with children. But there are things for everybody to take advantage of. I have an 18 year old and a 25 year old, and they want to come out and have a good time too. So they bring their dates down. And they get to enjoy the comedy shows and the fire show and the acrobat show. So there’s a lot of things that we try to provide for the older population as well,” Meyer said.

Activities include rides and live entertainment by Eclectic Improv, Pyromancy, street performers and more. First Night will be held from 5 to 10 p.m., Dec. 31, inside the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. Tickets are on sale at all area Wegmans locations.
