Residents in some of the hardest hit snow storm areas received a visit from the Governor and National Guard Friday.
WBFO News had a chance to ride in a National Guard Humvee unit.

We traveled along the Thruway from Cheekotwaga and into south Buffalo as it remained closed Friday. There were snow piles several feet high in front of homes, businesses and outside Mercy Hospital on Abbott Road. It is where the Governor thanked National Guard units for their snow removal help.
The tour included a state-operated disabled group home in a residential area on Big Tree Road in the town of Hamburg. Health care worker Stacey Pettigrew cares for four individuals at the home. She was thrilled to see National Guard troops working to shovel the drive-way.
Pettigrew has been at the home since Monday night caring for the residents.

The tour continued into Orchard Park onto Lake Avenue. The National Guard arrived just ahead of the Governor's tour. Ken and Janice Glasgow have lived there for 26-year and said it was the worse they've ever witnessed.
A major effort is underway to clear out abandon vehicles that are scattered through the south-towns.
