Supermoon to brighten the night's sky

For stargazers and anyone who simply loves a beautifully moonlit sky, there is a special occasion coming tonight. A supermoon will rise in the night sky. This event coincides with the Perseid meteor shower, which could make for an amazing astronomical affair. WBFO spoke with Alan Friedman, a past President and current Membership Chairman of the Buffalo Astronomical Association to learn more about tonight's lunar spectacle.

The next supermoon will appear on September 9th. Having a trio of consecutive supermoons does prove to be a somewhat rare event. The next occurrence of this nature will not come until 2034.

Saturday & Sunday 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
