First blast of winter weather expected this weekend

Western New York is bracing for its first blast of winter weather this season.  There are a number of weather warnings and advisories this weekend.

First, there is a winter weather advisory for Erie, Cattaraugus, Genesee, Wyoming and Allegany Counties from noon Saturday through 1:00 Sunday morning.  Forecasters say temperatures will turn sharply colder tomorrow.  Snow totals in the immediate Buffalo region will be in the one to three inch range.  But gusty winds reaching 20 to 30 miles per hour could result in blowing snow and reduced visibility.

There is a lake effect snow warning from noon Saturday through 7:00 Sunday evening for Chautauqua County where snow totals could exceed a foot.  Again, gusty winds will produce difficult driving conditions.

And there is a lake snow advisory for Niagara and Orleans Counties from noon Saturday through 7pm Sunday as snow bands off Lake Ontario accumulate three to six inches with strong gusty winds and reduced visibility.
