Jazz host Wallack heads to Broadcasters Hall of Fame

The Buffalo Broadcasters Association welcomes former WNED-AM Program Director Al Wallack into its Hall of Fame. A 45-year veteran of local radio, Wallack earned a national reputation for his many years hosting "Jazz in the Nighttime" on Buffalo's WEBR-AM.

"I enjoyed my time learning in all those other formats, but I revere my time in jazz because I got to actually work on the radio, every night, presenting a bona fide art form. Not many people can say that," Wallack said.

Wallack won't be alone Saturday night as the Buffalo Broadcasters Association inducts the 2013 Hall of Fame Class. Janice Lieberman, Linda Pellegrino, Dave May, Nancy Sanders and the late Bob Koop will also be honored.

Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. - 10 a.m.

Jay joined Buffalo Toronto Public Media in 2008 and has been the local host for NPR's "Morning Edition" ever since. In June 2022, he was named one of the co-hosts of BTPM's "What's Next."

A graduate of St. Mary's of the Lake School, St. Francis High School, and Buffalo State College, Jay has worked most of his professional career in Buffalo. Outside of public media, he continues in longstanding roles as the public address announcer for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League and as play-by-play voice of Canisius College basketball.
