A new Marriott Hotel is coming to downtown Buffalo - as part of the $170-million HARBORcenter. The franchise will be operated by Shaner Hotels.
Its president Plato Ghinos says "from a physical point of view it will be one of the best hotels in the Northeast - not just Western New York."
"It's going to be first class facility. Very modern. It is going to make a statement for the city of Buffalo," said Ghinos.
The 205 room Marriott will be a full-service hotel with meeting space, fitness center and other amenities.
"Most importantly it's going to also create a great opportunity for us to offer great service to the existing and all the new customers that are going to come to Buffalo," said Ghinos.
HARBORcenter president John Koelmel says construction across from Canalside is on schedule and the twin-ice rinks are set to open in the fall of 2014.
The hotel's opening is slated for the spring of 2015.
"We're determined to do what hasn't been down before," said Koelmel.
