Film shoot at Niagara Falls features famous faces

Some big-name Hollywood stars are in Niagara Falls Thursday shooting scenes for an upcoming movie.

Buffalo Niagara Film Commissioner Tim Clark says Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates and Sandra Oh are cast in 'Tammy,' a Warner Brothers production. Scenes were being shot from the observation deck atop the Falls and at the Cave of the Winds.

Clark says due to Thursday's rainy weather, the shoot is not attracting especially large crowds. But he says the filming will provide a huge economic benefit to the region.

"It means hotel rooms are booked, it means restaurants are doing catering on-set, and also a lot of local crew is hired to augment the crew that comes in with the movie. So there's a lot of money left behind," Clark says.

'Tammy' is about a woman who hits the road with her hard-drinking grandmother after losing her job and learning that her husband has been unfaithful, according to IMDB.com. The movie is scheduled to be in theaters next year.

"We get to talk with them and interact with them a little bit and one cool thing that we found was that Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon both have not even been to Niagara Falls before," Clark says.

Around 60 local crew members were hired for the shoot.
