Approximately 250 potential future female athletes participated in a Western New York Girls in Sports Program on Sunday. The effort is the brainchild of Mary Wilson, the wife of Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson. She founded the effort in 2004, and the program is a means for introducing young girls to sports, not only how to play them but the importance that athletics can play in their development in life. Wilson claims that her life has been enhanced greatly through her participation in sports.
"There's no doubt that, for me, it has given me more than I have ever given it. And so, for me, this is a way to pay back. There's nothing like it. There's nothing like having a sport."
Activities at the Healthy Zone Fieldhouse included soccer, tennis, golf, track and many others. For her part, Wilson has had a long and successful career as a tennis player.
