A beloved Buffalo woman who was struck and killed last week was remembered Tuesday in Common Council chambers. Ida Murphy, 54, died last Thursday when a vehicle driven by 48-year-old Issac Parker struck three light poles after police tried to stop him on Fillmore Avenue. Murphy was leaving a grocery store at the time.
A Buffalo Police officer fired a shot at Parker, killing him as he sped off, dragging an officer. Police said Parker was pulled over for what appeared to be drunk driving.
Ellicott District lawmaker Darius Pridgen says Murphy was well-known in her East Side neighborhood and church. The woman known as "Miss Ida" would often help those in need.
"She would come and get clothes for the children in the neighborhood," said Pridgen. "Just last week, she had asked my mom to put aside some jogging suits for kids."
Pridgen participated in a memorial service at the accident site Sunday night. The Ellicott District councilman called it a "tragic event."
