Area soldier's body returned to family

On This Veteran's Day, the body of Army Sergeant Brett Gornewicz will be returning home to his family in Alden.

Gornewicz was serving with the 444th Engineer Company in Oswego when he was deployed to Afghanistan. He was killed on November 3rd when an improvised explosive device was detonated. The solder has been awarded the Bronze Star with Valor.

He is survived by his parents and a sister. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday morning in Alden.

A procession will lead Gornewicz from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport to Alden on Sunday morning.
