Legislators approve ECC budget

ECC's new 2012-2013 budget cleared a local hurdle Thursday when the school's spending plan was approved by the Erie County Legislature.

Education is expensive and the cost of educating young and old alike at Erie Community College is no exception.

Erie County Lawmakers see it as an  investment in the community now and in the future.  So to that end, party labels took a back seat at yesterday's meeting at Old County Hall with legislators unanimously approving, and ECC President Jack Quinn and ECC's Chief Administrative and Financial Officer William Reuter looking  on, a budget that exceeds $111 million.

"We couldn't be happier at the college that we have unanimous approval," Quinn said.

"This is a lot of money,  $111 million. That shouldn't be taken lightly, and it's not.  The college this past year spent four or five meetings, work sessions, to come to this, to arrive at these numbers. So it was after a lot of thought and deliberation and we get unanimous approval. "

The ECC budget must still be approved by SUNY trustees.
