Groundbreaking ceremonies took place Monday morning at 203 Park Club Lane in Amherst for the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center's new Scott Bieler Amherst Center.

The $23 million project is Roswell's first new build outside of its downtown Buffalo campus and is expected to open in 2023,

“Over 44% of our patients come from communities north of Buffalo and we have to be where our patients are," said Roswell President and CEO Candace Johnson.

The facility will be two stories tall, with 26,000 square feet of space. There are plans to add services that are currently available only on Roswell's downtown campus, and consolidate current functions from 100 College Parkway in Amherst and the adjacent Park Club Lane Medical Center at 199 Park Club Lane.

The new center's namesake, Scott Bieler, is CEO of West Herr Automotive Group and a longtime supporter of Roswell Park. The naming is in recognition of a "significant gift" made to the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation.
